I also did the Dell Support Assist test, and everything there passed as well. Okay, I completed the F12 test on startup (which took like 3 hours for some reason), and everything passed.
If your machine has a hardware problem - that should find it. Select the diagnostics option towards the bottom of the list. Shut down your computer, restart it holding F12.
If anyone knows of anything anything that could cause this problem, or if you know any way to fix it, I would greatly appreciate your help. I'm not sure if the shutdowns and the memory problem are related, but I think that they might be. Today, I also had a problem with my memory I only had Skype and a few Chrome tabs open, and my memory usage went up to 15.8 GB out of 16, and the CPU usage went up to around 50%. I have also looked at the temperature right before it shuts down, and it is always around the normal temperature. I have done several tests, and none of them say anything is damaged. I have no idea what could be causing this problem. At first, I thought it was the battery that was causing problems, because I got a message on start up that said "Your battery is permanently damaged and needs to be replaced." Unfortunately, it was not the battery, because I just replaced it yesterday, and I still have the same problem. The laptop doesn't go to a blue screen or restart after it shuts down, and sometimes it takes up to an hour before I can actually restart the computer again. It wasn't too bad when it first started, because it usually only happened after playing the game for several hours, but it got worse over time, and eventually, some games started shutting my laptop off after I played them for about 5 minutes or less. I have had my Alienware 17 laptop for about 2 years now, and about a year ago, my laptop started to shut down for no reason while playing most games (only a few actually work).
